Dental Crown Dentists Grand Rapids Mi

We may recommend a dental crown to restore a fragile tooth after injury or decay. A dental crown is a restoration that fits over your tooth to restore its function and appearance. We may also use dental crowns to cover dental implants or teeth that have undergone root canal therapy.

Here’s what you can expect during your appointment.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

The dental crown procedure takes two visits to our office. During your first appointment, we’ll file down your tooth so the crown has enough space to sit on top. We’ll then take impressions of your teeth to send to the lab where your crown will be made. In the meantime, we’ll place a temporary cover over your tooth until your next appointment.

When you return to our office, your tooth crown will be ready. One of our dentists will make sure that the crown is the correct size, shape, and color to match the rest of your smile. Then, they’ll remove your temporary crown so they can bond the permanent restoration to your tooth.

How to Care for a Dental Crown

Take care of your dental crown like you care for the rest of your smile. Make sure that you’re brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once daily to remove plaque. It’s also important that you see one of our dentists for preventive care at least every 6 months. During your appointment, our dentist will check the condition of your dental crown.

In general, dental crowns can last between 5 and 15 years when you practice good oral hygiene.
