Sometimes a tooth needs to be removed, whether it’s become impacted, is crowding your other teeth, or is damaged beyond repair. Our dentists will do everything they can to save the tooth, but if it needs to be extracted, we have a safe and comfortable procedure in place.

Tooth Extraction Process

When you come in for your tooth extraction, our dentists will walk you through your anesthesia options depending on the severity of the procedure. Sometimes the tooth can be saved with a root canal procedure, but other times extraction is the only option.

If you’d like to look into different tooth restoration options, we’ll work with you to come up with a treatment plan at this point. Then, once you’ve chosen your sedation, our team will get to work removing the tooth.

Tooth Extraction Aftercare

It’s important that you take good care of the area after the tooth extraction procedure is complete. Your mouth will need time to heal, so you might experience some pain or sensitivity in the area in the coming days. Swelling is common after a tooth extraction and can be managed with a cold compress applied gently to the face.

It’s very important that the extraction site should not be disturbed throughout the healing process. After the procedure, a blood clot will form to staunch the bleeding. Avoid drinking through straws, spitting, or aggravating the area by brushing or flossing for at least 24 hours.

If you notice excessive bleeding that cannot be stopped with gauze alone, call our office right away.
